About The Security and Democracy Forum

Independent Ideas. Principled Leadership. Trusted Dialogue.

The Security and Democracy Forum is an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to advancing peace, principled security, and democratic resilience.
We exist to help ensure that security serves democracy—not undermines it. In a time of rising global threats, polarization, and institutional mistrust, we provide a space where ideas, leadership, and action come together to strengthen the foundations of a free society.

Our Mission

We work to safeguard peace, promote accountable security practices, and build trust in the institutions that uphold democratic governance. Through independent research, leadership development, public dialogue, and practical solutions, we aim to advance security that protects liberty, dignity, and justice for all.

What We Do

👉 Independent Research — We produce rigorous, actionable analysis on national security challenges, with a focus on transparency, oversight, and democratic integrity.
👉 Leadership Development — We cultivate the next generation of principled national security leaders through fellowships, mentoring, and training.
👉 Dialogue & Convening — We host roundtables, public forums, and podcasts that bring together voices across sectors and ideologies to address critical issues in security and democracy.
👉 Advocacy (where appropriate) — We support efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and promote security policies that serve the common good.

Why We Exist

Today, the relationship between security and democracy is under strain. Around the world—and here at home—we face challenges that test our commitment to both liberty and safety. Whether it’s the erosion of public trust, the politicization of security institutions, or the emergence of new threats in cyber, AI, and defense technology, our mission is clear:
To help ensure that security practices strengthen, rather than erode, the democratic principles that define us.

Our Values

  • Integrity — We act with honesty, transparency, and fairness.

  • Accountability — We believe oversight is patriotic stewardship.

  • Courage — We speak hard truths and take principled stands.

  • Inclusion — We uplift diverse voices and seek equity in security policy.

  • Service — We work for the public good, not private gain.

Who We Serve

We engage policymakers, civic leaders, academics, veterans, and citizens who share our commitment to a secure and democratic future. Our work is nonpartisan, independent, and designed to build bridges across divides.

Whether through research, partnership, fellowship, or dialogue, we invite all who believe in the promise of peace and democracy to work alongside us. Together, we can help build a future where security and freedom go hand in hand.
